Yesterday, Christine van Hattem (UU-PECP) and Jurriaan Gort (UMCU) presented their report on Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) that they wrote under the supervision of Lourens Bloem (UU-PECP) and Renske ten Ham (UMCU) at the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. In the past two months, the free English-language online course "Introduction to GMP Annex 1" has been created in cooperation between theHochschule Albstadt-SigmaringenandZamann Pharma SupportGmbH, which is now available on the e-learning platformPharmuniand can be used by all students of the university. The content of the course was designed by Prof. Dr.Andreas Schmidfrom the Faculty of Life Sciences. The e-learning course teaches the basic requirements for the production of sterile medicines. In the European Union, these are set out in Annex 1 of the GMP Guideline (GMP = Good Manufacturing Practice). Questions that will be clarified in the course include:·What is sterility?·What are the ways of producing sterile medicines?·What strategies can be used to prevent contamination of the products?·Why are cleanrooms and barrier systems essential for manufacturing, and what distinguishes them?·What are the requirements for the staff, e.g. with regard to clothing and behaviour in the cleanroom?
