Hi I am almost 13 weeks pregnant and I need to figure out my delivery plan. I want to deliver in a hospital but in the most natural way possible. I would like to find a hospital in the west Los Angeles area that supports water births...

Any advice is greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

@ellawizard,

I also live one weho and go to the sanctuary on Venice. The midwives are amazing! And they have great doulas too. It's the best thing I've done my entire pregnancy. I'm 33 weeks and couldn't be more confident with my decision to switch from my ob to them.

@LittleLimeMama,

I wanted to do a water birth in a hospital as well, but was unable to find one! I would let the plan go unless your willing to give birth at home or at a birthing center-the only places I've found that do them! Also heard that the L & D unit at UCLA is wonderful and supports natural birth-good luck!

@VirgoBump,

Hi there!!

Your story sounds so familiar to mine. I'm due in Aug 2013 and I was wondering how your experience went at Cal Hospital? I'm hoping for a natural birth, probably water, and I'd love some in-site.

Thanks!

@vanessalarson22,

@Vanessa I ended up having a few appointments at cal hospital but since I have Insurance I decided to give birth at Cedars. I was nervous about cedars and the high c section rate however I labored at home for 9 hours after my water broke and was allowed to progress on my own at cedars and give birth vagin*lly.

I had my baby in March. My research on this subject led to very limited options. The tub and hospital setting don't mix. There is a center in Venice that offers water birth and the only other option I found was home birth. Best of luck - I hope you are able to create your optimal birth plan!

Davi Khalsa is THE BEST midwife in LA. She is like the Ina May Gaskin if Los Angeles, super experienced, spiritual, loving yet also she is conservative and would transfer to hospital before a serious emergency arises which is why I am going with her. I have seen her in action as my friends home birth (10lb baby!) and she was phenomenal. My friend could labor wherever she chose and birthed a beautiful healthy boy. Good luck mamas. I'm due in 3 weeks and have rented my birth pool and am all ready to go!

There is a beautiful birthing center near West hollywood on San Vicente and LaCienega. It's brand new and Simona, is the main midwife there and has access to Cedars (2 min away) in the event of an emergency. I had a tour through her birthing center and fell in love.

Check it out:

So Happy you posted- Imalmost at week 10 and want to get set up with an OB who delivers at a hospital where its an option. I had my first OB appt today at kaiser and was told "babiesbreath air not water." It was meant to be a joke but Im really looking for someone more open to it and who can at least answer some questions for me.

@pacekd,

Will any of the care be covered by insurance, and if not would you mind me asking what their rates are (for both the Doulas and midwives). Im trying to figure out if it can be in our baby budget.
