Alaska Railroad GoldStar Dome Service
In Alaska the landscapes are big, so big sometimes that seeing them requires a big window. For this the Alaska Railroad offers the GoldStar Dome service, an upgraded train experience that includes reserved seating beneath full-length dome windows that offer unimpeded 360-degree views.
GoldStar train cars have two levels, with that noteworthy seating on the upper level. Seats are wide and comfortable, set in rows of four with an aisle running down the middle. They're equipped with fold-down tray tables. All seats face forward and, most importantly, all seats have a great view. The upper level also houses an outdoor viewing platform and bar area. GoldStar cars are private, meaning that only passengers with ticketed seats can access the upper dome area. While underway, each GoldStar dome car has a dedicated host who provides narration throughout the route.
On the lower level of GoldStar dome cars is the GoldStar Dining Room. Decked out in four-person booths with tablecloths and cutlery, the dining experience is one of comfort with a touch of luxury. Both levels of all GoldStar dome cars are wheelchair accessible.

Another benefit of the GoldStar service is that meals, drinks, and gratuities are included in the ticket price. Depending on the segment, this could include breakfast, lunch (soup and entrée), and/or dinner (soup or salad, entrée, and dessert). All non-alcoholic beverages are also included, plus two alcoholic beverages for passengers 21 and older. Meals are served in the lower-level dining area. The dining room is open to all train passengers, although GoldStar passengers do receive preferred seating. See our Alaska Railroad Dining page for more details.
The GoldStar dome service is available on the Coastal Classic between Anchorage and Seward and the Denali Star between Anchorage and Fairbanks. Both routes have some sensational scenery worthy of dome window views. GoldStar is not available on the Glacier Discovery route.
It's possible to enjoy the GoldStar dome experience while also working within a value-oriented vacation budget by incorporating additional travel in Adventure Class and on the Park Connection Motorcoach. To explore ticketing and schedule options, use our Train & Bus Express Checkout tool. Would you rather chat? Please give us a call at 800-208-0200.
